| Wandering
in the Far East for more than half a year is an experience that cannot
leave one untouched. Magnificent temples arouse spiritual emotions,
green mountains and rice fields are mind-boggling and mighty rivers rumble
everywhere. Still, the most striking feature of the region is its
cultural diversity. Each country is characterized by its own religion,
traditions, customs, language and life style. And everywhere you go, whether
it is to the center of a big city or to a small remote village, you will
see children around you. It sometimes may seem as though only they are
there, carrying the burden of life on their little shoulders. They walk
hours to school in another village, they work to support their families,
which in some cases are disadvantaged, but one thing unites them all -
a kind of optimism, which is not always expressed with a smile, but rather
a determination to make the best of the existing situation, because this
is the reality they know.
Most of the pictures I chose to present here were taken during 1996 in India, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong-Kong. I would like to thank my trip-mates, my local friends and my family for their on-going support. GUY SHACHAR

| I took many
pictures during my trips to the Far East. Still, I like the pictures of
the children the most, so I scanned my favorite ones for this exhibit.
The exhibit contains 61 pictures. From this page you'll enter the first page of the exhibit, which contains the first picture. For most of the pictures I added a short description about the place where the picture was taken, so you can learn about the magnificent places of the far east through your walk in the exhibit. Each page will link you to the page of the next picture and the previous picture, so you can walk forward and backwards in the exhibit as you like. ENJOY !
